Welcome to Biblical Perspectives

Hi, welcome to Biblical Perspectives. For some time now I have been thinking about starting a weekly blog about issues of life that affect us individually and collectively. As the title suggests I want to consider these issues from a biblical perspective. The Christian’s Bible has been around for 2000 + years. Its messages are for every individual on the face of the earth; regardless of whether you follow any particular religion, or not. The word of God is universal in its scope.

I make no apology for mentioning the word God in a world that increasingly denies His existence. For anyone who does not believe in God, the moment you die you will believe! But, then it is too late! Do you consider yourself to be a fool?  “The fool has said in his heart, ’There is no God’...”  (Psalms 14:1 NKJV)

Why must we die? All around us every day of every week of every year people die. What does the word of God reveal to us? “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.”  (Romans 3:23 NKJV) “For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.”  (Romans 6:23 NKJV)

Now there is no getting away from the word ‘all’. All have sinned – the wages of sin is death. All sin is against God. This is the biblical perspective; death is the reward of sinning.  Thank God we are not left with this hopeless situation. The rest of the verse clearly tells us that “...the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.”  You may say, “I am not a sinner.” Who’s fooling who? The only person you are fooling is yourself! The word ‘all’ includes you!

God gives the gift of eternal life, but it is only available in one particular Person. That person is the Lord Jesus Christ; the One who is truly God and truly man. How does He give me this gift of eternal life?  “...if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus Christ and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. For the Scripture says, ‘Whoever believes on Him will not be put to shame’. “ (Romans 10:9-11 NKJV)

The moment you are saved, you have the gift of eternal life. You now belong to God for all eternity; and have “...an inheritance incorruptible and undefiled and that does not fade away, reserved in heaven for you.”  (1 Peter 1:4 NKJV) The gift has not cost you anything – it is a gift. But, it cost the Lord Jesus his life as a man, when He died on the cross at Calvary to pay the penalty for your sins and mine. Through His sacrificial death, by Him paying the price demanded by God we are reconciled to God. His blood that was shed at Calvary cleanses us from all sin. When God raised Jesus from the dead; He proved that the risen Man had the power of an endless life. This eternal life is available in Him, and only through Him.

So the choice is ours; either eternal life, or eternal damnation. God did not create man as a robot or a machine. He created us with the ability to make our choices in life.
