I want to consider these issues from a biblical perspective. The Christian’s Bible has been around for 2000 + years. Its messages are for every individual on the face of the earth; regardless of whether you follow any particular religion, or not. The word of God is universal in its scope.

What is your life?

This is an interesting question. It does not ask what you do in your life; it simply asks -  what is your life? The Scriptures pose this question in James 4:13, 14.

(13) "Come now, you who say, 'Today or tomorrow we will go to such and such a city, spend a year there, buy and sell, and make a profit.' (14) Whereas you do not know what will happen tomorrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapour that appears for a little time and then vanishes away."

So in the overall scheme of things our lives are likened to a vapour that is seen and then disappears!

What sort of foundation is your life built on? Let's consider the words of the Lord Jesus Christ in Matthew 7:24-27.

(24) "Therefore whoever hears these sayings of Mine, and does them, I will liken him to a wise man, who built his house on the rock: (25) and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it did not fall, for it was founded on the rock. (26) But everyone who hears these sayings of Mine, and does not do them, will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand. (27) and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it fell. And great was its fall."

Is your life built on the Lord Jesus Christ? Then you are like the wise man whose house was built on a firm foundation. When the storms of life come, will you remain strong? Or will your life come crashing down?

I am always amazed at the people who build houses in canal estates in Australia. The vast majority of these houses are built on sand! If there is ever a major flood the sand will simply wash away! No house can stand if its foundations are removed!

What will happen to you at the end of your life? Are you trusting in your good works to get into heaven? Salvation only occurs this side of the grave. Once you are dead it is too late! What we consider good works won't help. You can't get into heaven on a merit system.

Ephesians 2:8, 9 tells us, (8) "For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, (9) not of works, lest anyone should boast."

Simple faith in a living Saviour is the only way into heaven. That's the point of Calvary; that's why Jesus Christ died for our sins, to bring us to God as saved sinners.

What is your life? What will be your final destination - heaven or hell?

Only you can provide the answer!

New Year

New Year - a time of renewal, a time of making resolutions, a time of looking forward and a time to reflect on the year just gone.

What mistakes did we make? Can we learn from them? Or will we repeat them again?

Have we made New Year resolutions? Will we profit from what we have learned in the past twelve months? The mere fact we make New Year resolutions means we hope to improve our lot in life, or improve as a person.

Will we go on our way this year helping to make a difference for good? Resolutions are good; but how many of us have the will and perseverance to carry them out?

Psalms 37:23 states, "The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord, and He delights in his way."
Jeremiah 10:23 tells us, "O Lord, I know the way of man is not in himself it is not in man who walks to direct his own steps."
Micah 6:8 informs us, "He has shown, O man, what is good: and what does the Lord require of you but to do justly, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God?"

We are often so busy in our lives seeking to improve our situation in life that we forget the Lord requires us to fulfill obligations to Himself. The Lord requires us to (a) do justly (b) to love mercy (c) to walk humbly with Himself.

How many of us can honestly say we are just in all of our doings? How many of us truly love mercy? We tend to see people 'get what they deserve.' How many of us walk humbly with our God?

The word 'humble' is a very over used word in western society. Many people use it from a false sense of humility. "I am only a humble accountant"; "I am only a humble shop keeper" etc. If they were truly humble they would not be describing themselves as 'humble'.

We live in New Testament times. In our day to walk humbly with our God requires a life changing decision. To follow God means to turn your back on the world and its ways. That's what repentance is; believing God and His words and accepting His offer of eternal salvation through His Son, the Lord Jesus Christ.

Romans 8:14 states, "For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are the sons of God."
John 1:12 tells us, "But as many as received Him [Christ], to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name."

If you are not yet walking humbly with your God - will this New Year be a new beginning for you?
